As recounted by Livy, the episode takes place in the 8th century B.C., when the early Romans, seeking to secure wives, abduct women from the neighboring Sabine tribe during a solemn festival. The dramatic climax of the tale occurs when the Sabine women, now wives and mothers, heroically interpose themselves between the warring armies of their fathers and husbands, halting the bloodshed and forging peace." Condition

Unframed. The sheet with a narrow horizontal nick to top edge, just left of center (approximately 1/2 inch-wide.) An abrasion at right center of sheet. A tiny abrasion to lower right corner of sheet. Several additional minute nicks along edges of sheet. Areas of discoloration to center and lower right quadrant of sheet. A 1/4 inch-diameter whitish area to upper right corner on a figure's head (apparently a loss of ink.) Multiple whitish horizontal lines to lower third. The mount with several tears, abrasions and creases. Abell provides in-house shipping for select items.
